Federal Representative of Akoko Edo, Hon. Peter Akpatason, has formally registered his mandate renewal bid with the purchase of the expression of interest and nomination forms at the secretariat of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.

He is seeking to extend his service as the representative of Akoko Edo constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Nigeria’s lower chamber of the Senate where he is currently the Deputy Majority Leader.

The popular lawmaker whose tenure is credited to have heralded unprecedented changes in the constituency, was accompanied by political stakeholders and eminent personalities across the Edo North Senatorial District, including former Commissioners, ex-political office holders, and prolific grassroots mobilizers.

Expressing his gratitude at the overwhelming support, including the several endorsements and donations that have trailed his declaration of intent to seek re-election, Hon. Akpatason assured the people to expect a monumental increase in the quality and quantity of service and representation.

He said: “We are looking at building institutions, strategic human capital development.”

Noting that the encouragement, endorsements, and contributions have been crucial in the mandate renewal project, he said the people had surpassed his expectations and pledged to rededicate himself to the cause of ensuring the delivery of the dividends of democracy.

“You have surprised me and surpassed my expectations. I want to assure you that I’m going to reciprocate by rededicating myself to increasing the dividends of democracy that come to our people in all aspects.”

Mr. Joshua Suberu, one of the constituents present at the event, said Hon. Akpatason’s decision to seek re-election was due to constant nudging and pressure from constituents who, impressed and satisfied with his representation, desired him to continue his good works.

He said: “Continuation is an opportunity to consolidate all that he has been doing. We have seen him work in the dimension the constituency has never witnessed in the annals of our history.”

“I believe that having the opportunity to serve the people of Akoko Edo again is actually the decision of the people, not Hon. Akpatason. This time around, we begged him; we have mobilized, contributed money and begged him to represent us again.”

“This is the man God has given to us and he has been doing a good job. We are seeing projects spread across Akoko Edo and we want that to continue.”

Another constituent, Mr. James Osheku from ward 10 in Ososo expressed confidence that Hon. Akpatason would exceed his previous achievements.

“Hon. Akpatason is tested and trusted. We have no doubt about his capacity. The evidence is in Akoko Edo; from one community to the other, his efforts are glaring, and we have no doubt that he’ll do even better. That is why our people at home are happy about this new beginning,” he said
