Allege Fraudster Who Posed As Europe Based Businessman Arrested In Benin

BENIN – A 35-year-old student of one of the universities in Edo state Nigeria has been nabbed by men of the Edo state police command for theft and scam.

The suspect identified as Augustine Osemudiamen popularly called “Warri Man” is a student of one of the universities in Edo state.

Standard Gazette gathered that the suspect who posed as a Europe based businessman approached a man who deals on Gold at the King’s Square in Benin city claiming that he wants to buy the item.

It was gathered that he first requested for gold weighing 378.4 grams, worth N10.9 M.

According to Police investigation, Osemudiament requested the seller to follow him to the bank to enable him to pay for the Gold but unknown to the seller that he has only N20,000 in his bank account.

Osemudiamen then allegedly signed a cheque worth N10.9 M and gave it to the Bank cashier to transfer the said amount into the Gold seller’s account who was right beside him in the bank, Standard Gazette learned.

 

The bank cashier after checking his account told him that he has no such money and then returned the cheque.

He then allegedly turned back and told the Gold seller that the whole money has been transferred into his bank account.

Osemudiamen then tricked the man that financial credit alert will soon hit his mobile phone following which they both smiled out of the bank as the suspect then took the Gold bracelets away.

Standard Gazette further gathered that the suspect then called the Gold seller the next day and requested for another gold item worth N2 M.

The second request prompted the seller of the Gold who was yet to receive an alert of the first sales to suspect Scam and stealing.

The seller quickly contacted the police and an investigation was immediately launched.

The suspect was arrested by the police while trying to sell the first alleged stolen Gold bracelets to another Gold dealer in Benin City.

All the stolen Gold bracelets were recovered by the police.

But the police said the suspect will be thoroughly investigated to ascertain if he has duped other sellers in like manner.
