Alleged Political Attack: FOGOCOM Raises Concerns Over Attempts To Discredit National Chairman And National Conference

The Forum of Governing Council Members in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions (FOGOCOM) has raised serious concerns over what it describes as an emerging attempt to attack and discredit the personality of its National Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Akin-Thomas Babajide, following the Forum’s open support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

FOGOCOM believes that the National Chairman may have become a target of political opposition because of his leadership of the Forum and its consistent advocacy for the interests of Governing Council Members across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

The Forum has previously publicly commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its interventions in the tertiary education sector and declared its support for continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections. These positions have been widely reported by national media.

The current concerns are coming at a time when FOGOCOM is preparing for its forthcoming National Conference scheduled for 29 September 2026 in Abuja, expected to bring together Governing Council Members from tertiary institutions across the country.

FOGOCOM maintains that the conference is designed to provide a platform for members to discuss good governance, institutional development, education-sector reforms and their collective responsibilities as members of Governing Councils.

The Forum further states that its members, being political stakeholders and citizens, have the constitutional right to support any political candidate or policy direction of their choice.

FOGOCOM therefore cautions individuals who may be attempting to use political disagreements to undermine the integrity of its National Chairman or disrupt the forthcoming National Conference.

The Forum will not be intimidated.

FOGOCOM remains committed to good governance, accountability, institutional development and the advancement of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

The Forum also calls on all members to remain calm, united and focused, while urging anyone with genuine concerns about the National Chairman or the forthcoming conference to present such concerns through the appropriate channels rather than resorting to personal attacks or unsubstantiated allegations.

FOGOCOM SHALL REMAIN UNITED.

FOGOCOM SHALL REMAIN FOCUSED.

FOGOCOM SHALL NOT BE DISTRACTED.

The national Chairman of FOGOCOM is now the target for opposition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Some opposition with the renewed hope Government is now trying to attack the personality of the National Chairman of Forum of Governing Council Members in Nigeria Tertiary institutions FOGOCOM, the opposition within the APC are among the Pro-chancellors and Vice – Chancellors.
