Amb Igiebor Reacts To Attack On APC Governorship Candidate, Shaibu In Benin

Edo APC Chieftain, Amb. Terry Igiebor, has vehemently condemned the attacks on the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the reinstated Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, by suspected thugs allegedly loyal to the Edo state government.

The incident occurred this afternoon, shortly after Okpebholo and Shaibu had arrived at the Benin Airport from Abuja. In the unprovoked attack, one police officer was shot dead, and many APC supporters sustained injuries.

Amb. Igiebor denounced the violence, stating that it is a blatant attempt to undermine the democratic process and intimidate the opposition. “This attack on our leaders and members is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” he said.

The APC Chieftain called on the police and other relevant security agencies to swiftly investigate the incident and apprehend the perpetrators. “Those responsible for this heinous act must be brought to justice,” he demanded.

Igiebor also urged the federal government to prioritize the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations. “We must ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a peaceful and fair manner, without the threat of violence or intimidation by the state government,” he emphasized.
