A group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as APC Young Stakeholders Forum in North-central zone has joined the calls for the emergence of former Nasarawa state governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, as the next national chairman of the ruling party.
The next national chairman is expected to emerge in the forthcoming national convention.
The forum while lamenting the unfortunate circumstances that led to the constitution of Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee, said the party should give Senator Al-Makura an opportunity to totally fix the ruling APC.
In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja Wednesday, the Forum’s Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abdulrahman Andoma Ahmad, the time has come for all party members especially the youths to become active and be more curious about the potential leadership of APC.
The statement said: “Senator Al-Makura has the capacity, pedigree and the needed experience to stabilize the wobbling ship of our great party and steer it to the expected destination.
“Also worthy of note is the fact that Senator Al-Makura is a true party man with a full grasp of the dynamics of party politics at the national level, haven served in various committees. With such pedigree and high credentials, we believe if given the mandate to lead our great party for the next four years, Senator Al-Makura would no doubt bring to bear his political acumen, administrative dexterity and unbridled negotiation skills to reorganize the party in line with the dreams and aspirations of its founding fathers.
“As a firm believer in the change agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, together they can form a formidable partnership to salvage Nigeria from its current socio-econimic and political challenges.
“Therefore, as the party goes into the National Convention, we appeal to our esteem delegates to consider this great patriot as the most suitable choice to lead the Governing Party (APC) to its desired destination, while calling for a level playing ground for the delegates to vote candidates of their choices in the spirit of equity, justice and fairness which is the hallmark of our great party.”
