There was apprehension in Benin City this morning as thugs suspected to have been recruited by the PDP observe drilling and orientation ahead of the reported plan to help PDP win by-elections in areas where the exercise is scheduled to hold.
Part of the plot was to use the thugs masquerading as Vigilante Group of Nigeria to intimidate voters, destroy polling units where opponents are reported to have a lead, deal violently with opposition party agents, and force INEC officials to do their bidding.
Meanwhile, the APC who exposed the plot and tagged it unconstitutional, uncivilized, and shameful desperation have since alerted the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to thwart such action that seeks to undermine democracy and promote brigandage in the picture of a Banana Republic.
The APC also admonished His Excellency Godwin Obaseki to avoid such actions that are capable of putting the state in a bad light and pursue a peaceful process that guarantees respect for the rights of the Edo people to choose their representatives at different levels.
The party however warned troublemakers and parents to admonish their wards against being used as tools for election rigging as the APC is extremely prepared to resist anything with the resemblance of election malpractice.
