In a display of political strength, the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a massive rally in Egor Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State, vowing to reclaim the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Leading the campaign, the Director-General of the APC campaign, Senator Mathew Uroghide, declared that the party has come with “vibrant and energetic youths” to lead the charge in Edo. He announced that the people of Edo North and Edo Central have concluded that Monday Okpebholo and Hon. Dennis Idahosa should be the gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates, respectively.
Edo APC leader, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, stated that it is time to “make things right” in the state. He highlighted the failures of the current administration, saying that the state had regressed from the progress made under the previous government.
Former Edo Deputy Governor, Hon. Pius Odubu, emphasized the importance of voting for people with proven capacity. He praised the transformative work done by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who he said had modernized Edo and even undertaken federal road projects.
Other speakers, including former House of Representatives member Patrick Obahiobo and APC National Women Leader Dr. Mary Alile, echoed the party’s determination to reclaim Edo State and deliver good governance to the people.
Addressing the crowd, former Governor Oshiomhole expressed outrage over the reported killing of a police officer attached to the APC gubernatorial candidate and the alleged theft of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Ovia. He warned the incumbent Governor Obaseki against using violence and called for a peaceful electoral process.
The APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, outlined his five-point agenda, which includes security, education, healthcare, modern agriculture, and infrastructure development. He vowed to declare a state of emergency in these critical areas to transform Edo State.
