OF COURT ORDERS AND EDO PDP’S DELEGATES LIST AT THE PARTY’S PRESIDENTIAL CONVENTION
PRESS STATEMENT
This press statement has become necessary due to the various conflicting positions being blatantly peddled about in the media spaces; either due to ignorance or outright mischief by some persons in order to further divide our great party.
For the records, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Edo State Chapter, is one indivisible entity bounded by the constitution of the PDP for the common goal of winning elections and making decisions for the general good of the citizenry of Edo State in particular and Nigeria in general.
The days leading to this convention has been hectic for the party in the state as delegates congresses and legislative candidates primaries held and the cumulative events saw two courts orders being given days ago. It may not have been well with some of us whose interests might have been affected negatively but it is a big win for democracy and the rule of the law.
Needless to delve into the litany of logic or words in the appeal court order, but it suffices to say that it gives credence and acceptance to the stand of the appellants who actually stood for the entrenchment of democratic ideas in our party and to weed out impunity that our dear PDP had consigned to the dust bin of history in the years yore. Similar to it is the order of the Federal High Court, Abuja. They both affirm one thing: respect for the party constitution; no to impunity!
The PDP National Working Committee, NWC, being itself a creation of law had received the orders of the courts and acted accordingly. Adjustments were made to the earlier printed convention brochure to reflect the names of delegates who were elected for this purpose as monitored by INEC as the courts had ordered. And these delegates are in the screening hall now at the convention ground waiting to be screened.
However, the Edo State Chapter of the PDP wish to state that we do not encourage legal cases. But when individuals feel the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms are not enough for them to vent their anger, they can approach the courts. More so, the right to appeal is guaranteed to all and sundry under our extant laws.
Edo State Chapter of the PDP still at this juncture call on all party faithfuls to, in the spirit of brotherly love, sheath their swords and let go of litigations for the common goal of winning the elections ahead.
Whoever the delegates being screened today in Abuja are, they remain MEMBERS of the PDP and not any LEADER’S MEN OR WOMEN!
