Manchester United and France international footballer, Raphael Varane has officially retired from international football.
The 29-year-old Frenchman who plays as centre-back has announced his retirement from the French international football.
The former Real Madrid star made the announcement of his retirement via his Instagram handle on Thursday.
The one time World Cup winner said it was great honor representing the country.
Varane who played for France 93 times disclosed that he’s leaving the national team to give space for the younger ones to flourish and shine while paying tribute to his teammates, coach and fans.
He said, “Representing our great country for a decade has been one of the greatest honours of my life.
“Each time I wore this special blue jersey, I felt immense pride. The duty to give everything, to play with my heart and to win every time we enter the field.
“I have been thinking about it for several months and decided that it was the right time for me to retire from international football.”
“I will miss these moments with you (the fans) for sure, but the time has come for the new generation to take over.
“We have a group of talented young players who are ready to take over, who deserve a chance and who need you.”
