Plans have been perfected by Governor Godwin Obaseki to return all the 18 LGAs chairmen and councilors (excepted the deseased) that came with him from APC back to offices without conducting elections.
Unconfirmed sources say the governor has given specific instruction that on no account must any member of the old PDP be included in the list that have been compiled by his agents in every local government.
This undemocratic venture is being carried out between the Obaseki led administration and the PDP state chairman, Tony Aziegbemi.
What they intend to do is to send the names of these their unholy undemocratic consensus candidates to Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, as the Party members who will be running for primary elections, and subsequently the general election.
This is exactly the reason why forms are not on sales by the party under the watch of conspirator, Tony Aziegbemi, who is in support of this clandestine anti-democratic arrangement with the governor.
To show this is beyond rumour, yesterday, a video was made by an intended candidate who left from Auchi who traveled down to Benin to procure the form but met the PDP State Secretariat under lock and key and there were no forms on sales to party members.
This despotic act is not known under any democratic norm, and every PDP member must come out publicly to speak against it in very deep lacerating democratic sense. We can’t be looking askance while Obaseki and his agents will be murdering democracy in Edo State the way he did while in APC.
In 2020 gubernatorial election, he was voted in one of the freest and fairest elections ever held in Nigeria, he should not be the one to put a clog on the wheels of democratic processes and institutions in the state.
We call for a free and fair election in the state where every candidate, even those from the main opposition party, APC, are given fair playing ground to try their popularity with the people they intend to serve rather than the hatched imposition by the governor and his cronies of writing list from the comfort of their homes.
