Controversy Trails Apology By Rep Who Assaulted Bolt Driver

Controversy has broken out over the apology tendered by House of Representatives member Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh after he was caught on tape assaulting a Bolt driver who delivered a parcel of snails to him.

GWG.ng reports that Ikwechegh had following a national outrage over his conduct tendered an apology late on Monday.

He had said in part:

“I, Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, Member of the House of Representatives, wish to address a deeply disturbing incident that occurred at my residence recently. A video has surfaced showing me engaging in unacceptable behavior towards an Uber driver who came to deliver a waybill for me. I am deeply sorry for my actions and acknowledge that they were unacceptable and unbecoming of a public official.”

However, the apology has not found much traction with a significant proportion of members of the pubic with some claiming that the apology by Ikwechegh was AI generated.

Some particularly claimed that there was no special attention directed at the Bolt driver who was the victim of the attack.

GWG.ng gathered thoughts on the apology of Ikwechegh:

Trending Explained @TrendingEx

Apology is trending because the House of Representatives member, Alex Ikwechegh released an apology to Nigerians and the bolt driver he assaulted. In the apology he said “those involved will be held accountable”. We checked, the apology is 100% AI generated. He later deleted it and posted a more comprehensive apology. Nigerians are insisting on his suspension.

In saner clime you should be out of the office for proper investigation to be conducted.

O Samuel O @Flamesammy

His apology should be accepted with some compensations to the bolt driver, remember we are all trying to hold our leaders accountable for their actions, he has been held accountable. Let’s not be distracted by this inconsequential event. There are dire national issues to expound.

Cheeni Eugene-Jean @CheeniJ

He has a lot of questions to answer and by extension his colleagues in the House too. Is this the norm with House of Rep Members, have they been making people disappear, how many so far, Citizens and victims of such abuse should step forward & tell their stories.

Baba voss @kels_abbey

Whoever doesn’t respect us doesn’t deserve to represent us. He should be recalled from House of Representatives and made to face the assault charges plain and simple.

A street hustler @MirLilywhite

He should give six months of his salary to the Bolt driver and he should also give the Bolt driver the 50million naira he intend to use and lock him up!

Spirit of Ikechukwu @IkechJosh

The apology first has to go to the bolt cabbie and the rest of the nation. As it stands his ago is still driving his decision making .

Robert @Robbyj300

Is it just me, or does this apology sound AI generated.

Pixa paul @pixa_paul

Nonsense apology are these the people we put in offices to represent us?
