Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna, has requested that President-elect Bola Tinubu look into the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani made this statement while expressing concern about the domestic and international debts that the Buhari government accrued during its eight years in office.
If the N23 trillion loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are securitized, the growing debt profile of the country is now hovering at N77 trillion, according to the Debt Management Office (DMO).
According to reports, Nigerians are presently voicing their worries about the incoming administration’s continued request for a $800 million loan from the World Bank only a few weeks before its term comes to an end.
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the Buhari administration utilised some of the loans it had gotten to build roads, bridges, and other infrastructure all around the country.
But, Sani said the first step in servicing the nation’s debt is to conduct a full investigation of the cost of the projects they were purportedly used for.
In a post on Twitter, he asked the incoming government to probe all federal ministries, departments, and agencies under the Buhari regime.
His words: “The first step towards servicing our billions of dollars of local and foreign debt is a full investigation of the cost of the projects they were purportedly used for.
“The incoming government must probe all the MDAs under this regime.”
