Barr Douglas Ogbankwa, a Nigerian lawyer and the convener of the security situation room, has petitioned the Commissioner of Police in Edo State over an attack by Mathew Ideurikemwen, the Director General of the 2024 PDP Campaign Council for the upcoming Edo gubernatorial elections.
According to Ogbankwa’s lawyers, the incident occurred on July 7th, 2024, as their client was leaving a wedding. Ideurikemwen allegedly instructed one of his thugs to slap Ogbankwa, causing inflammation in his left eye and blisters on his face.
Furthermore, the lawyers assert that the attack was politically motivated, as both Ogbankwa and Ideurikemwen are on opposing sides of the 2024 Edo gubernatorial race. Ideurikemwen, who is the Director General of the Asue Ighodalo Campaign Organisation, allegedly threatened Ogbankwa, who is a known supporter of Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The lawyers have called for a thorough investigation into the attack, emphasizing the brazen impunity displayed by Ideurikemwen and the need to hold him accountable for his actions.
