The ancient city of Kano is currently bubbling with politicians, government officials, and businessmen who have all converged in Kano state for the wedding of Yusuf, son of President Muhammadu Buhari to Zahra, daughter of the Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero.

And one of the unlikely guests at the wedding is controversial politician, Femi Fani Kayode.

The presence of the father of ten undoubtedly raised not a few eyebrows as not only was he the only member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP present at the wedding, he is a vociferous critic of the president and has never minced words in his criticism of the president.

Even more surprisingly is his hobnobbing with the minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, whom he once described with unprintable names.

In photos shared on his Facebook page, the former Minister of Aviation is seen with other party guests who are members of the ruling party grinning from ear to ear.

In one of those photos, he is pictured with Pantami whom he described as his friend and brother.

“Flew into Kano with my friends and brothers Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state, Governor Babagana Umar Zulum of Borno State, Senator Sani Ahmed Yarima, Senator Ali Ndume, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, Hon. Minister Isa Pantami, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and others for the wedding ceremony of President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf Buhari, to HRH Nasiru Ado Bayero, the Emir of Bichi’s daughter, Zahra Ado Bayero,” he captioned one of the photos.

The minister’s appellation of Pantami was a sharp contrast to what he had labelled Pantami in a piece he penned back in April.

Fani-Kayode had lampooned Pantami in April for his extremist Salafist views and sympathy for the Taliban, currently on the rampage in faraway Asia, precisely Afghanistan.

“Simply put, Pantami is a homicidal, sociopathic and psychotic individual…Who is a hater of Christians and non-Muslims. He is a religious bigot, an ethnic supremacist, an unrepentant jihadist, a lover of bloodshed, carnage and terror and a psychopathic and clearly insane individual who may well have been responsible for the slaughter of many innocent Christians over the years as a consequence of his inflammatory rhetoric and reckless actions,” Fani-Kayode had stated in the piece to Pantami for sporting Sunni Islamic terrorist group known as the Taliban.

In one of his sermons in the 2000s, Pantami had reportedly prayed, saying, “This jihad is an obligation for every single believer, especially in Nigeria… Oh God, give victory to the Taliban and to al-Qaeda.”

Well it remains to be seen if his presence at the wedding will eventually culminate into his eventual rumoured defection to the ruling APC.
