Director-General, Kaduna State Bureau for Substance Abuse, Prevention and Treatment (KADBUSA), Dr Joseph Maigari, has said all hands must be on deck to find an immediate solution to the increasing cases of drug abuse among youths in the country.

He noted that most youths have fallen victim to the consequences of drug abuse.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) in Kaduna on Thursday, Dr Maigari said drug abuse among the youths is so alarming and may affect the bright future of the next generation.

“You discover that most homes are lamenting the adverse effects of drug abuse among their children. It has not only affected the victims but also their parents and loved ones are completely disorganized following the behaviour of those affected,” he explained.

He noted that the Kaduna State government through agencies is doing all it can to curb the menace among the youths especially students by diverting their attention to their studies.

Also speaking on the topic, “Role of student leaders in curbing illicit drugs in tertiary institutions”, Mr Malo Elisha Bitrus, Immigration personnel enjoined student leaders to rise to the occasion of checkmating their colleagues against taking drugs.

He also called on the management of higher institutions to explore ways of checking students engaged in drugs abuse to ensure proper help is offered
