I, Benjamin Mayor Oyemandan, pen this few lines of words with an unequivocal conviction. I support Dr. Asue Ighodalo for the position of Edo State governor. This assertion may not sit well with skeptics, considering I have previously criticised the political party he stands for, but my support for him is not driven by party allegiance but by a steadfast belief in his competence, character, and vision for Edo State.
Let me start my case by addressing the wrong narrative, a criticism I face for perceived inconsistencies. I indulge in the liberty of political wisdom to support a competent candidate, regardless of his party affiliation. My change of heart does not suggest betrayal. It is merited by studied decisions.
Now, on to the focal matter, why Dr. Asue Ighodalo? First and foremost, it’s his competence. When measuring a candidate’s worthiness, their track record of performances in previous roles offers a reliable assessment. Over the years, Dr. Ighodalo’s actions as a reputable economist and a cooperate legal luminary have showcased his ability to effectively steer the helm and make decisions for the greater good.
Secondly, character. An integral trait that large percentage of Nigerians on social media sidelined when measuring a candidate’s viability for public office. From my observations, Dr. Ighodalo possesses a character that is not only commendable but exemplary. His staunch stand against corruption echoes his steadfastness in promoting honesty and integrity, an indispensable quality in a leader.
On the matter of Dr. Ighodalo’s experiences, these cannot be overlooked. He has shown depth and insight in various socio-economic matters, showcasing a commendable blend of leadership and subject matter expertise. This experience forms a solid foundation from which he can address major issues in our state, including insecurity and poverty.
One significant aspect that intensifies my support comes from his solution-oriented outlook, a burning hunger for progress. Dr. Ighodalo’s vision for Edo State embodies progress, education, and the eradication of poverty, a trifecta of change necessary for our region’s rejuvenation.
As we head to the polls on September 21st, 2024, I implore you to observe equity, justice, and fairness. Every vote has the power to shape Edo State’s future. Remember, we are not just voting for a candidate; we are voting for progress and a more prosperous, just Edo State.
It is not an act of radicalism to lend my support to Dr. Asue Ighodalo, instead, it is a noble decision. His competence, character, experiences, and progressive perceptions make him the ideal choice for Edo State’s leadership. So, as we head towards a crucial juncture in Edo’s political trajectory, I implore everyone especially the social media yellers to respect my decision and consider their choice with fair judgment.
