EDO @30: Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Salutes Edolites

PRESS STATEMENT ON EDO @30

by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu

Today marks 30 eventful years since the formal creation of our great state, Edo, from the defunct Bendel. In these years, we have weathered great storms that tested our resolve as a people and emerged from them, courageously and triumphantly, as one.

We have also recorded great deeds; our democracy has blossomed, new industries founded, and we have taken several steps forward in the evolving – and never-ending – task of perfecting our union. These notable achievements stand as monument to the enduring and indomitable Edo spirit.

We can take a moment today to celebrate. But as we do, let us bear in mind that momentous occasions like today, three decades since we embarked on the quest of building a prosperous state that is safe and secure for us and our children, offers an opportunity to carry out retrospection.

We are called to cast our minds back to this date in 1991 and re-assess the state of affairs to ascertain if, truly, we have stayed the course and remain on the same path of optimism and hope the formal announcement heralded. Are we closer to the rewarding horizon? Is today better than yesterday? And what hopes do we have for tomorrow?

These are questions that compel collective deliberations and answers, following which we must rethink our choices, whether in politics or personal endeavors, and align them with the mission of building a state we can all be proud of.

Happy 30th anniversary, my fellow Edolites!

Signed:

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu
