Edo: Angry Residents Burn Suspected Kidnappers In Owan

Five suspected kidnappers have been burnt alive in the Owan East local government area of Edo State.

The alleged kidnappers are believed to be responsible for series of abductions in Okha-Afuze road.

Reports of abductions along Okha-Afuze road had been on the rise recently, residents claimed.

The incident happened on Friday, 16 July.

Standard Gazette crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe gathered that the kidnappers had attacked a Utility Jeep, abducting the occupants.

The alleged kidnappers led their victims into the bush after setting the Jeep ablaze.

SG gathered that local Vigilante and some audacious residents immediately mobilized, tracked and rescued the victims.

Four of the hoodlums, Standard Gazette gathered, were captured.

However, SG gathered that angry residents set the suspects ablaze before the arrival of the Edo State Police.

As at press time, only ashes were now the remains of the deceased suspects.

Contacted, the Edo state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs, confirmed the story but said an investigation has commenced into the matter.

He said the deceased kidnappers were burnt beyond recognition.
