Barr. Andrew Emwanta was scheduled to appear on Newscentral’s Breakfast Central program this morning to share his views and educate viewers on the recent Court of Appeal judgment in Abuja regarding the voter’s card forgery case of PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo. However, mere minutes before the program, the station’s management received a call from someone at the Benin City Government House claiming the court judgment was a forged document and fake. This caused the station to cancel Emwanta’s appearance entirely.
The question is, why is Governor Godwin Obaseki so afraid of the truth? The court judgment clearly found evidence of voter’s card forgery by Ighodalo, who is widely regarded as Obaseki’s political surrogate. Yet Obaseki’s camp felt the need to intervene and prevent the public from learning these facts.
This is not the first time Obaseki has demonstrated a pattern of denying or covering up the truth. He has repeatedly shown a reluctance to be transparent and accountable to the people of Edo State. One has to wonder, what is Obaseki so afraid will be revealed if the full truth comes to light? The people deserve leaders who embrace honesty, not ones who cower from it. Obaseki’s actions raise serious questions about his commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
