Edo: Police Arrest Two Suspected Cult Members, Recover Weapons

 

The Edo State Police Command says it arrested two suspected members of the Aiye cult group in the State.

The state Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City.

Ozigi said the suspects were arrested along the Benin/Auchi bypass at Iguomo community in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the State.

He said they were arrested by the operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit during a stop-and-search operation.

He said the operatives intercepted a motorcycle with two passengers along the bypass road but the passengers fled on sighting the officers.

The commissioner, who gave the names of the suspects as Nosakhare Umuwagbe,34, and Frank Abumere, 35, said they were pursued and apprehended by the operatives

 

He added that during a search conducted in their houses, two pump-action guns with twelve live cartridges were recovered.

Ozigi, who said the suspects confessed to being members of the Aiye cult group, added that they would be charged in court after the investigation.
