The Edo State House of Assembly resumed plenary on Tuesday, January 8, 2025, to consider the lists of commissioner nominees submitted by the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
In a letter dated January 7, 2025, Governor Okpebholo requested the assembly to screen and confirm the nominees.
The Commissioner Nominees are Paul Ohonbamu, Washington Osifo,
Paddy Iyamu, Andrew Ijegbai, Henry Oladisi Idahomen, Lucky Eseigbe
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Sheriff Agbabaku, referred the letter to the House Standing Committee on Rules and Business for screening where he directed that a report should be available to the House within one week.
Additionally, the House received another letter from the governor, dated December 19, 2024, requesting confirmation of members of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission EDSIEC.
The nominees include, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, Anthony Aigbokhomhan, Suleiman Ikhuoria,
Umoru Frank, Imafidon Osarodion,
Asein Ojo Victor, and Ighomo Egharevba Thomas.
The list was also referred to the House Standing Committee on Rules and Business for reporting back within one week.
In another development, the House gave a second reading to a bill repealing the Secret Cult Prohibition Law 2018 and establishing the Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Law 2024. The bill was referred to the House Standing Committee on Security for reporting back within a week.
The Speaker announced that despite being on vacation, the lawmakers convened an emergency sitting to address urgent issues affecting the government and state.
The House, however, adjourned sitting until Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 10 am.
