In a significant move for the staff of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has authorized the payment of five months’ salary arrears, along with the timely disbursement of the April 2025 salary. This decision aligns with the ₦70,000 minimum wage and comes just before the Easter festivities.
During a briefing with the Man Around Radio team yesterday, Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, emphasized Governor Okpebholo’s dedication to revitalizing the educational sector in Edo State for the benefit of its children.
Historically, the polytechnic staff had expressed their frustrations in October 2024 regarding unpaid wages, revealing that the last salary they received was for May 2024, which was only issued in September 2024.
They also voiced concerns about being excluded from a special salary scheme designed to reward academic staff, while noting their lack of access to the ₦70,000 minimum wage approved by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu
This recent approval is expected to alleviate some of those concerns and provide employees with much-needed financial relief.
