The Governing Council of Edo State University Uzairue has suspended the University’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, for alleged gross violations of Financial Rules, Regulations and Gross Incompetence.
The Chairman of the Council, Prof.Emeritus T.O.K Audu, on Monday deciding on behalf of the Council in a letter addressed to Prof. Dawood Egbefo, and signed by Betcher Ekhosuhun, Esq Officer-In-Charge, Legal Services Unit, dated 4th November 2024, noted that the suspension was based on the unsatisfactory response of the Acting Vice Chancellor query issued to him at the Emergency Meeting of the Governing Council of the University held on 3oth October 2024.
The letter further noted that Prof. Dawood Egbefo’s suspension borders on allegations of Contract Splitting, Siphoning of University Funds and Non-Compliance with Due process and his outright display of incompetence in the management of the University’s affairs.
“Consequently, the Governing Council set up an Investigative Committee headed by the Bishop of the Auchi Catholic Dioceses, Most Rev Gabriel G. Dunia will investigate the plethora of allegations against Prof.Dawood Egbefo and make recommendations to the Council,” the part read.
The embattled Acting Vice Chancellor has been directed to vacate office as the office with immediate effect.
This according to them, is to allow the Committee to have unhindered access to files and the University documents; he is to handover the functions of the Office of Vice Chancellor to Prof.M.J.E. Evbogbai, Director of JUPEP in the University with effect from Monday 4th November, 2024.
