The Esan Youths Organization (EYO) has cried out to the Government of Edo State over 20 Years old unpaid gratuity and entitlements of late Mrs Macelina Omoakhalen who died 20 years ago in active service as headmistress of Agua Primary School, Irrua Edo State.

The next of kin Mr Yakubu Omoakhalen, native of Idunwele Ewu, who himself a member of EYO, lamented to his Organization leadership how he lost his mother 20 years ago after his father’s death. He was still very small then. After some years, he tried to collect his mother’s entitlements as headmistress. According to Yakubu, “I was living in Abuja, I used to tell some experienced civil servants who were colleagues of my mother to help me do the paper work. They took money from me several times and did not do anything until 3 years ago when I was introduced to Mr Kola Edokpayi of the Talakawa Movement who personally took me to the Pensions Board and we discovered that no paper work has been done concerning my mother’s entitlements. I started afresh. Spent huge money on paper works. When I completed series of paper documents at the Pensions Board and Probate, it was discovered that my mother’s entitlements is only just 1.2 million naira and meanwhile I have spent more than that amount on transportation, paper work, court signings, settlements and the ones that were initially taken from me without doing anything. The most difficult task was given to me by the probate after filling all the papers, I was instructed to pay an upfront payment of 120, 000 naira as percentage to the government before the 1.2 Million naira can be paid to me. I was having no dime left with me because I have stayed in Benin 6 months before that time doing paper works up and down from Irrua to Benin and Benin Back to Irrua. With the belief that I will be paid immediately after making this upfront payment, I sold my father’s small land near his grave to pay the government percentage.

Three years after I made that payment, I have still not received the entitlements of a woman who died in active service 20 years ago. This is why I am crying to Esan Youths Organization to help me out. I have no other choice. I have exhausted all my personal ability and right now I need help” he lamented.

On hearing the very pathetic situation of Yakubu, EYO Leadership swung into action to help one of their own.

As at press time, consultations were on going with the appropriate channels and SOS letters have been sent to the Governor, The Secretary to the Government of Edo State.
