Factory Worker Arrested After Threatening To Kidnap Boss In Edo

A 25 YEAR OLD-man has been arrested by men of the Edo state police command over an alleged threat to kidnap and murder his boss.

The suspect was arrested in Ugbogui in Ovia South-West local government area of Edo state.

The 25 years old suspect, identified as Mike Ashien, was employed in a domestic oil-producing firm in Ugbogui in Ovia South-West local government area of Edo state.

The situation then turned to soar as the suspect was alleged to have hidden his mobile phone number to call the owner of the company to pay the sum of Ten million naira ransom or have him kidnapped and murdered.

Out of fear, the boss ran away from Edo state but quickly reported to the Edo state police Commissioner, Philip Ogbadu, who ordered an extensive investigation into the matter.

Edo police boss then directed men of the Police Anti Kidnapping And Cybercrime Unit of the state police command to commence action on the report.

The suspect, Mike Ashien, was arrested in Ugbogui while still working in the factory.

He was later discovered to be the person threatening his boss to pay N10 million or be ready to be abducted.

 

In an interview with Standard Gazette crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe, the victim said, “I almost passed out when he used a high tune to request for the ransom which I know I will not be able to afford. I ran away from Ugbogui but unknown to me that it was my staff that was threatening me. I actually employed him three months ago to work in my factory but shocked to see that he wanted me dead”.

“I give thanks to God that he has been arrested”.

The suspect said, ” I wanted money to fix some urgent family issues and decided to threaten my boss because he has money,

He pays me N20,000 monthly, and it is not enough for me at all and l just threatened him to get more money. I am now regretting,” the suspect wept profusely.

Edo State Police Public Relations officer SP Bello Kontongs said the police used serious technical means to arrest the suspect.

According to him, “I can confirm the arrest of the man who threatened his boss with Kidnapping and murder or have him pay a ransom. He will be prosecuted diligently”.
