The Federal Government has alerted Nigerians to potential food scarcity linked to the constant destruction of farm produce, livestock and properties of traders in some parts of Nigeria.
Alhaji Sabo Nanono, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said the targeted attacks on farmers and traders especially those from the north will only bring needless trouble on the country.
Nanono maintained that each region of the country needs the other to survive, adding that many have failed to realise the realities and importance of coexistence.
The minister stated this when he played host to members of the National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN) in Abuja, Voice of Nigeria reports.
He stated further that the Nigerian constitution allows for any citizen to travel to, reside and earn a living in any part of the country they wish without undue hindrance.
Ahmed Aminu, Technical Adviser on Media to the minister quoted his principal as referencing a case of an Imo farmer who resides in Kano state and makes an annual turnover of more than N200 million.
Nanono said, “I wonder how it would feel if we wake up one day and ask the gentleman, who has spent decades in rural Kano, to pack and go back to Imo State.
