Give Us Arms, Logistics To Drive Herders, Hoodlums From The East – Hunters

The Hunters Group of Nigeria (HGN) has called on the governments of the South East to provide them with arms and other logistics to dislodge hoodlums and Fulani herdsmen from the zone.

They said they needed the logistics such as office, operational vehicles and arms to drive away hoodlums and armed herders from Enugu state and the entire South-east.

State Commander and Acting Zonal Commander for South East, Austin Nwangwu, who disclosed this while addressing journalists in Enugu, Monday said should government give them the needed support, they will surprise the people.

“If government of the day will assist us and give us the needed logistics, we’ll do wonders. There is no corner in Enugu and elsewhere in the South East that you will not see us.

“If we are armed, hoodlums, Fulani herdsmen will move out of the East. In December for instance, we arrested five kidnappers. If we are given the logistics, we’ll do more,” he said.

Nwangwu, however regretted that all their efforts to meet with South East Governors to discuss on issues of security has not been successful because when they were about meeting with the Chairman of South East Governors’ Forum, Gov. Umahi, COVID-19 pandemic prevented that move.

He applauded the South East governors for coming up with the idea of a security outfit, Ebubeagu, which they arrived at in Owerri, Sunday, saying they would prefer if the governors would bring them in to ensure that the zone is adequately safeguarded.

“We give kudos to the governors for establishing Ebubeagu so that we can sleep with our two eyes closed.

“As I am talking to you, Fulani herdsmen are killing people in Ebonyi State. If the government brings us in, we we’ll join forces with others to check insecurity in the land.”

He noted that security was everybody’s business and that was why they are in the business of bringing intelligence information to security agencies to check crimes.

The admin secretary, Barr Chinedu Chukwuani, also commended the South East Governors for the new security outfit saying that it would secure the zone.

Chukwuani said they take proactive measures by getting information that would aid security agencies to check crimes and urged all and sundry to cooperate with the governors to rid the zone of crimes and criminality.

“Let’s cooperate with the governors so that with the new security outfit they will stamp out criminals.”
