A Benin City-based group in Edo state, Talakawa Parliament, has expressed concern over crises in some communities.
The group consequently called on concerned authorities to call perpetrators to order.
Speaker of the parliament, Mr Kola Edokpayi,who stated this in Benin, cited a case in Iguoshodin N’ Ebudin community, Ovia-North-East local government area of the state following the invasion of the community by armed gangs.
He said the parliament was alerted to the situation in the community by the elders, women and youth, adding that, “as promoters of justice, equity and good conscience”, it decided to alert relevant stakeholders.
The activist stated that it was informed that a traditional leader “has been fingered as a principal actor fanning the embers of the crisis.”
He wondered why the traditional leader who was supposed to be purveyor of peace, now allegedly translates through action and inactions to be promoting crisis in the community.
Edokpayi appealed to the Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II, to call the traditional leader to order.
He also commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for rising to the occasion through the deployment of the state security network
