Gunmen Kidnap Permanent Secretary, Granddaughter In Niger

Some unidentified gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped the Permanent Secretary in Niger Ministry of Transportation, Dr Ibrahim Garba Musa with his granddaughter.

According to the report by The Nation, he was abducted in his house in Zugeru on Friday night, October 1st, 2021.

It was gathered that the permanent secretary was in Zugeru for a wedding celebration and picked up by the gunmen in the night after the celebration.

A source close to the family revealed that the gunmen entered the house by breaking down the gate to abduct the Permanent Secretary who was relaxing after the celebration.

The family has begun reaching out to the State Government to inform them about the incident.

The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said that he has been informed about the incident but was yet to confirm it.

He however said that the State Government would do its best to ensure the Permanent Secretary is rescued unharmed.

The Niger State Police Command spokesman, DSP Abiodun Wasiu is yet to comment on the incident.

Niger state is now a hotbed for banditry with many suspecting the increased activities to be as a result of the military onslaught on the bandits in the neighbouring state of Zamfara.

It can be recalled that The Street Journal reported that over 30 people were killed, others abducted in bandits attacks on Sarkin Pawa, headquarters of Munya Local Government Area of Niger state.
