Herdsmen on Saturday evening invaded the farm of three siblings and injured two of the brothers who resisted them.
The siblings, Goje Joseph, Nathaniel Joseph and Friday Joseph, resident in Oyan town of Odo-Otin Local Government Area Osun State have their farmland at Agoyin area of Erin-Ile, Kwara State.
The Nation gathered the incident happened around 6pm on Saturday when the siblings were about to leave the farm for their house in Oyan in Osun State.
It was gathered the herdsmen suddenly stormed the farm with cutlasses and clubs.
The eldest brother, Goje, told The Nation on Sunday: “We were attacked by Bororo herders, they came to our farm with their cows.
“That was not their first time of invading our farm and destroying it. We choose to check them yesterday. We have been farming on that land 10 years ago and they insisted that their cattle want to feed.
“We refused and they used a big club on us. Friday, my younger brother, managed to escape to seek help from the nearby village.
“The hit myself and Nathaniel with clubs to the extent of bleeding and destroyed our maize and cassava farm. When villagers came to our rescue, they ran away with their cattle. We reported to the Oloyan of Oyan but he told us to report to the king of Erin-Ile since it happened on his land. We have not gone to see him.”
Chairman of Committee on Peaceful co-existence between Fulani/Bororo and crop farmers of Osun State, Hon Mudasiru Toogun, confirmed the attack.
He said: “I am aware of the incident and I have sent a representative to visit the place. The incident happened on Kwara land however the victims are living in Osun State but their farmland is in Kwara state.
“There is a limit to what we can do, I advised them to report the matter to the nearest police station around that side so that justice will be served. If we can identify those herdsmen, we will get across to the Kwara government on the matter.
“Our boundaries are tight. We have sent criminal herdsmen from the state. In Oke Oba in Iwo, Ife Odan, Esa Oke in Obokun, Ila and Odo Otin. Some of the herdsmen that were sent away are not from Nigeria.”
