Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has challenged Northern Governors to hurry up and end insecurity in the region.
The Sultan, who doubles as chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council Chairman, said all eyes were on them as political leaders of the region to find solutions to its woes.
He spoke on Thursday in Kaduna during a meeting by Northern Traditional Council over banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges bedeviling the region.
Sultan, who commended the Governors for their swift actions in dousing the rising tension in the wake of the recent tribal clash in Shasha market, Ibadan, urged the people to be patient for the efforts to yield results.
According to Sultan: “You know there have been many problems and people outside there would not know what the Governors were doing.

“But listening to the chairman of the committees providing inputs to this gathering to deliberate and come up with solutions to solve the various problems.
“It is easy to destroy but very difficult to build and destruction have been going on for years, for decades things have been going bad and they were not arrested.
“Now the Governors are trying to build, it will take time, but the people must be patient. But people are asking how long should we have to be patient? I know people are in a hurry, so the Governors too must be in a hurry to do their best.
“Our own is to continue to encourage them, pray for them, partner with them, we are not competitors. We are here to encourage you and we will continue to do that,” Sultam said.
Spokesman of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, appealed to Governors to stop fighting publicly.
He said squabble among them do nothing but sends panic to the citizens.
