I Will Prioritise Workers’, Students’ Welfare: LASU VC

THE Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, yesterday promised to prioritise workers’ and students’ welfare.

The woman, who assumed duty as the ninth substantive VC, was warmly received by workers and students, who lined up from the institution’s Iba gate to the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building at about 7am to receive her.

The 57-year old professor of physiology was ushered into her office by the management team led by the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oyedamola Oke.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello addressed the workers and students in front of the Senate building.

She told the students that she would prioritise their welfare and improve their learning environment.

She promised 50 per cent fee refund to the university scholars.

“Your welfare is important to me. We will ensure that the learning environment is conducive and competitive and we will provide infrastructure for you. We will ensure university scholars’ award is revamped. All university scholars will get 50 per cent refund of their school fees yearly. We will also provide studentship employment opportunities,” Prof. Olatunji-Bello said.

She told the workers that she sought their support and cooperation and called for peace.

She promised them that their allowances would be paid.

“I want to thank you for giving me this warm welcome. I promise that your welfare will be paramount to me and you will get whatever is due to you. All your allowances will be paid. However, I want to seek your support and urge that we all allow peace to reign for the good of our university,” the VC said.

She also met with workers’ and students’ unions, among others.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello, who was appointed as the vice chancellor on September 17, will serve five-year tenure.
