The Ijaw National Congress, the apex Ijaw socio-cultural body, has denied endorsing Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

According to a statement issued by the Obi-Datti campaign team, the INC endorsed Obi during an interactive session with the group at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

In a counter-statement signed by INC National Publicity Secretary Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha and titled, ‘We have not endorsed any presidential candidate,’ the group stated, “…the full text of the INC president’s address and footage from the interactive session with Mr Peter Obi are in the public domain and at no time was an endorsement mentioned.”

It went on to say that it was willing to meet with any of the remaining 15 presidential candidates to discuss and elicit genuine commitment to the Ijaw agenda of restructuring, devolution of power, resource control, and other minimum conditions that could influence our support for the Nigerian project.
