The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has advised Northern Governors to stop quarrelling in public so as not to create a bad precedence in the region.
The NEF Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who spoke during a joint meeting with Governors, traditional leaders and Federal Government delegation in Kaduna, said when Governors disagree on issues of security, it causes panic among citizens.
Baba-Ahmed said: “Governors are leaders and when governors disagree so openly, on the way forward either on security or how to deal with banditry it causes more panic among our people.
“We beg our leaders, there must be a way to resolve issues among governors without making some of these things public.”
He urged the Governors to work with their colleagues in the southern states to ensure that northerners resident there are protected while assuring that the NEF will pray for the success of the governors to take the region forward.
He however added that the NEF would not fail to criticise leaders in the region where they feel things are not properly handled adding“when we do that, it doesn’t mean we are on the opposite side, it just means that the north has a lot of assets and all the assets need to be put to use one. There is no need for ethnicity or religion because the entire north is in trouble.”
