A female police Inspector, simply identified as Akinola in police net in connection with the alleged murder of a pregnant woman, Sharan Ojeifo at a Birthday party in Benin City.
Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, Mr. Princewill Osaigbovo who confirmed Akinola’s arrest, did not give details.
But reports from the area, said, the suspect, allegedly stabbed the deceased with a broken bottle after an argument broke-out between the Celebrant (police officer) and the 33-year-old victim over ‘a fish barbecue’.
The incident which happened on February 5, 2021 in the State Capital, forced guests to run helter skelter while the body of late Sharon Ojeifo, had been deposited in a morgue ahead of autopsy.
The distraught widower, Sharon Ojeifo, has demanded for a thorough investigation into his wife’s death.
He Briefing journalists on Friday in Benin City, the husband of the deceased alleged that his late wife was stabbed several times by a lady, whose husband is a police officer.
He explained that fight erupted at the party following arguments between his wife and the police Inspector which subsequently led to the injury that caused her death.
According to him, Sharon Ojeifo, the mother of one was delighted to make fish sauce and felicitate with the Celebrant. However, she had a scuffle at the party, stabbed and bled to death on the way to a nearby hospital.
The husband said, “on that day, she woke up and decided to go to the market to buy things to make fish sauce for the celebrant. After doing that, she asked me to come along with her to the party.
“While in the party, my brother called and told my wife that he was coming to our house, to see us. I later went outside to inform my brother that we will be coming home soon. After I made the call, I went back to the party, I noticed my wife and a woman known as Akinola had an argument and they threw objects at each other.
“I quickly rush there to separate them, and took my wife away from the party. Before we left, she told me that one of her wedding ring is missing. So, I told her to wait let me go and get the ring. She also told her nephew who was in the party with us that he should go and get my daughter from where she was watching cartoon with the Celebrant’s kids.
“While searching for my wife’s wedding ring, the celebrant was throwing chairs, tables, and complaining that they have spoilt her party. Immediately, I heard a scream and turned back to see my wife and the woman she quarrelled with earlier, struggling; I rushed there shield my wife away from the scene, and took the broken bottle away from the woman’s hand. Thereafter, I noticed my wife was bleeding from her thigh and she collapsed.
“I rushed her into the car and drove to a nearby hospital. The doctors were trying to attend to her, and she asked after my daughter. She managed to say Richy I love you before she gave up.
He continued, “The woman also followed us to the hospital, and was complaining that my wife also stabbed her on her back, and I apologized to her while trying to save my wife. My wife had three broken bottle wounds.
“Ever since, we have been going to the police state CID, no arrest has been made and the case has been going on a snail pace. Fortunately, today we were able to see the commissioner of police, and he said they have started investigation and assured of speedy prosecution”, he alleged.
