The Nigerian military has called on all personnel of the force to trend with caution as there is available intel that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia wing are planning to abduct security operatives in the South-South and South East.

In a brief security message that has begun going viral, security personnel have been urged to negate traveling outside their workstation and there must be adequate armed escort during the movement of troops.

The security alert partly reads, “Avail Intelligence on 28 July 21 indicates that members of the proscribed IPOB group intends to kidnap military personnel and other high-value targets in order to force the FGN to negotiate a release of the leader of their group.

“Personnel are advised to be more security conscious and avoid keeping late nights, untoward associations, unnecessary road journeys particularly those transiting through the SS and SE Regions of the country.”

This notice comes as gunmen kidnapped 18 naval college students in Delta State. The students were said to be journeying from Kaduna to Delta when they were intercepted by the kidnappers.

While 13 of them have been successfully rescued, five of the military students are yet to regain their freedom more than 48 hours after their abduction.
