The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has dismissed media reports that former President Goodluck Jonathan has been officially registered as a member of the party in Otueke in Ogbia local government area of the state.
The party’s state welfare secretary, Comrade Abi Morris, said though APC is prepared to register and welcome Jonathan into its fold, he has not been officially registered as a member in the state.
Also, the APC chairman in Ogbia local government area, Believe Benjamin, denied knowledge of any registration of the former president in the council.
A media report attributed to APC ward 13 chairman, Igori Freeman, had on Wednesday claimed that Jonathan had registered with the party a few days after the 2020 victory of Chief David Lyon.
Reacting to the report, Morris, who served as the ward chairman of the party during the last governorship election, denied knowledge of such registration.
Morris said, “He (Freeman) lied. Jonathan has not officially joined the APC. Where did he get the registration booklet to register Jonathan? The ward 13 chairman should make the party the copy of Jonathan registration public. He is not yet a member of the party.”
He however said, “if they insisted, he has registered, it may be in Abuja. If it is in Ogbia and as a critical stakeholder, the materials are with me. If he has registered, I should be aware.”
