JUST IN: INEC Opens Up On Postponing 2023 Elections

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has insisted that the general elections will take place as planned.

In a passing remark when the new Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. General Yushu’a Ahmed visited the commission, Yakubu said the commission has no plans to shift any of the elections.

The INEC chief, who was apparently reacting to media reports and rumors about a planned election extension, did not elaborate.

He also assured the NYSC that Corps members mobilized for the polls would be safe.

He stated that the commission was fortunate to have a large number of youths ready for deployment in the elections, and that no electoral commission in the world can conduct any election solely on the strength of its staff.

Brig. General Yushu’a Ahmed, the new NYSC DG, stated that the NYSC’s commitment to delivering credible elections in the country was unwavering, and he praised the commission’s and the Service’s cordial relationship.
