A former Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission [PCC], Chief Barrister Obunike C. Ohaegbu, Ezesinachi N’Ukpor, has landed a heavy knock on Mr. Michael Achimugu, a former aide of former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over a leaked tape gone viral.
In the tape, Mr. Achimugu leaked a conversation he had with Alhaji Abubakar containing vast corruption allegations and disclosed why it is impossible to nab him on corruption charges.
Reacting in a telephone interview, Barrister Ohaegbu described Achimugu’s action as despicable and said that he ‘just destroyed the career of Nigerian youths’ who may have lost trust and confidence of the principals.
He said: “I think the character called Michael Achimugu, in his delusion that he was trying to fight Atiku, has just destroyed the career of millions of Nigerian youths.
“And I think the Nigerian youths should never forgive people like that because characters like him have made it impossible for people to grow in the various careers, especially people who are working as media aides and getting involved in jobs that require trust.
“What it means is that it is difficult for people who don’t know to employ you. The fact that he is Michael means that he is a Christian and Atiku, who is a Muslim, employed him and trusted him.
“The fact that he is Achimugu means that he is probably not from Adamawa but Atiku trusted him and he had the privilege and trust and affluence with Atiku that he could even call Atiku on phone and they could have a chat.
“But this guy, from the posts, from all that he has been churning out showed that he always had a criminal tendency to blackmail or destroy Atiku who was his boss even as at a time they supposedly had a chummy relationship.
“This is because the recorded messages he is releasing now must have been recorded when he was close to Atiku so as at the time Atiku was feeding him, paying his bills, he was accumulating documents and information to blackmail him.
“So, if you ask me, Nigerian youths should hold that person responsible because such characters have destroyed their future.
“Let me tell you, it takes a lot for people to be trusted; for mentor to trust you and get you close for you to be mentored.
“Trust is key but when you have somebody like this Michael, as he has proved, that somebody you trust could be recording you with intention to destroy you in the future, it makes it practically impossible for people to be trusted.
“And if you are not trusted, then growth is a lot difficult; growth in whatever you are doing is a lot difficult.
“From that perspective, I think he has destroyed the future of a lot of youths because the moment this information is released people will think that he is going to work against Atiku but no! It is going to work against the youths.
