The Edo State Ministry of Education on Thursday held an engagement with all Stakeholders in Edo state and the leadership of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (Nelfund) at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.
The event focused on the importance of education and the accessibility of educational loans for Edo students.
Governor Senator Monday Okpehbolo, represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, highlighted the NELFUND initiative as a beacon of hope for Nigerians seeking higher education. He assured all stakeholders that the state Government will continue to collaborate with NELFUND to ensure education is accessible to all in Edo as this will foster progress and development
He went on to appreciate the Leadership of His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his principal Senator Monday Okpebholo for providing a platform where all students and intending students have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and become notable men and women of tomorrow.
The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Paddy Iyamu, commended the leadership of Governor Okpehbolo, emphasizing that NELFUND aims to provide every child in Edo State with the opportunity to attend tertiary institutions, fostering the state’s development. He highlighted the fact that every child can get the support from 100 level to final year without paying any school fee until they graduate,fo for service and get a job after 2years. In his words ‘With this program the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody’
Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintode Sawyer, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Monday Okpebholo for prioritizing this initiative. He explained that the program offers funds to Nigerian students in federal and state institutions, covering school fees and providing monthly stipend.
The Executive Chairman SUBEB, Bar. Onome Briggs praised the initiative for giving children in basic level confidence to pursue higher education.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Edith Ebomoyi thanked the government for bringing this opportunity to Edo, bringing joy to students and their families.
