Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has underscored corruption as Nigeria’s primary obstacle to growth and development. Speaking at the investiture of Fellows and graduate members of the Institute for Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa (IGLSA) at the Africa University of Science and Technology, Abuja, Magu emphasized the urgency of addressing corruption for the nation’s advancement.
During his acceptance speech on behalf of fellow awardees, Magu, despite his unceremonious exit from the system, reiterated his commitment to the fight against corruption.
He stated, “Today, as we celebrate this honor, I reemphasize the importance of eradicating corruption for our nation’s progress. Fighting corruption ensures a secure future for all.”
Among the awardees were the executive governor of Yobe state, His Excellency Alh. Mai Malla Buni, represented by the deputy governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubawa; Wazirin Fune; the National Coordinator of Presidential Executive Order 5, Engr. Ibiam Oguejiofo; and Sir Folu Olamiti, publisher of Newspot and member of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).
Dr. Lanre Adebayo, the Director-General of the Institute, expressed gratitude in his welcome address, acknowledging the pivotal roles played by the awardees in nation-building. He highlighted that the recognition, while academic, aimed to spotlight individuals like them, who have positively impacted the country’s development, often operating behind the scenes.
I’ve no rift with Gov Alia – SGF Akume
The Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume has said contrary to insinuations, he has no problem with Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state.
Recall that there have been widespread rumours among supporters of the Governor and the SGF in Benue state alleging a rift between the duo over political supremacy in the state.
Addressing stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Saturday in Makurdi, the SGF cautioned against the rumours of the existence of any dispute between himself and the Governor.
Represented by elder statesman Simon Shango, Sen. Akume cautioned those he described as “political jobbers who bring issues between me and the Governor to stay away because I am at peace with him and we are not quarrelling. So I also want the party to know that I have no misunderstanding with the Governor.”
