Some major petroleum marketers on Tuesday retained N165 to N175 per litre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) amid unconfirmed rates of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
There was a media report the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, the sole importer of the product, notified the marketers on upward review of the pump price effective from Tuesday.
But NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Malam Garba Deen Muhammad, didn’t respond to enquiries for confirmation of the upward review when The Nation contacted him.
He didn’t respond to text messages on the issue.
Besides, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), General Manager, Corporate Communications Department, Apollo Kimchi was also silent on the matter.
But the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) said it was still waiting for the official rate from the NMDPRA.
Speaking with The Nation, its President, Alhaji Debo Ahmed said : “We (IPMAN) are still waiting for the official rate.”
When The Nation monitored the petrol market, Total in Zone 6, and the one in Zone 5, Wuse sold the product at N165 per litre.
The Oando in zone 6 sold it for N175 per litre despite the unconfirmed rates purportedly released by the NNPC which approved N174 per litre
