Hon. Abubakar Momoh, the newly appointed Minister of Niger Delta Development, expressed his concerns about the current state of infrastructure in the Niger Delta region.
Momoh stated this when he officially resumed duty today. He lamented the condition of the Benin Auchi Abuja road and the Benin Sapele road.
According to Hon. Momoh, these roads play a vital role in connecting major cities in the region and serving as important transportation routes for both people and goods. However, the poor state of these roads is hindering development and causing hardship for the residents of the Niger Delta.
Moreover, Hon. Momoh pointed out that the only alternative access road, which is passing through Ondo to Benin, is also deteriorating rapidly. This raises further concerns about the region’s transportation network and its impact on the socio-economic development of the Niger Delta.
In order to address these challenges, the Minister also expressed his intention to work closely with the Minister of water resources. By collaborating with the resources ministry, Hon. Momoh aims to develop plans for constructing dams across the region. These dams would help in managing the water resources and improving the overall infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
The Minister was received by the Permanent Secretary and the Directors in the Ministry of Niger Delta Development. They discussed various development projects and strategies to uplift the Niger Delta region.
