Naira Redesign: CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele And The Okowa, PDP Connivance

Godwin Emefiele hails from Agbor, Delta State. He is from the same state with Ifeanyi Okowa, the incumbent governor of Delta state.

When Godwin Emefiele was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan as CBN Governor in June 4, 2014, Ifeanyi Okowa was at the senate. Authoritative information has it that Okowa strongly recommended Emefiele for this Job.

Without any iota of doubt, Godwin Emefiele is a product of the PDP. When President Muhammadu Buhari became President in 2015, he inherited Godwin Emefiele as the governor of Central Bank. Since his mandate is statutory, willy nilly, he must complete his 5-year tenure in line with constitutional provision.

From intelligence gathering, the PDP leadership as represented in Okowa, advised Emefiele to stoop down and give deceptive loyalty to Buhari in order to secure a second term. During the second term, he can now strike to pitch the government against the people through some obnoxious policies, which will invariably place the opposition party, the PDP at an advantage over the ruling party.

Lo and behold, when his first term expired, out of deceptive conduct of Emefiele, Buhari graciously gave him another five years. They caught Mr. President unawares. This singular act laid the foundation of what we are facing today as a people and as a party.

Immediately Atiku emerged as the candidate of the PDP, they propounded two major strategies: one, Emefiele presented Okowa to Atiku as his running mate as a condition for him to implement anti-people policies that will paint the ruling party black before the masses. Atiku graciously accepted Okowa as his running mate. That was why Atiku did not bother about the choice of Wike when he was picked by the committee put in place to select a running mate.

The second strategy was for Emefiele to throw his hat in the ring by contesting the primary in the APC. The intention was not to win but to trigger unabating crisis within the APC family. This time, this option failed woefully because the elements supporting Tinubu were so formidable, therefore he was warded off. His failure was hinged on the ground that he couldn’t resign. If he resigned, the first option would have failed owing to the fact that he could not have guaranteed victory in the APC primary.

Emefiele and the PDP patiently waited till this time to come up with the change of naira notes that is causing mayhem to the people. This is a well calculated stratagem and properly designed device to devalue the government and paint the APC black before the masses.

The pertinent question we must ask ourselves is that why during this election period? Why is Emefiele so stone hearted and adamant? Why are they not considering the interest of the masses?

One does not need any Nostradamus before he knows the intention of Atiku. When Tinubu spoke against this draconian policy in Abeokuta, Atiku was the first person to oppose and rebuke Tinubu. Thereafter, he issued a statement that Emefiele should not extend the time. “The mere fact that people are suffering is not a good excuse to extend deadline for Redenomination..” He is doing this because of the advantage he wants to derive therein despite the sufferings of the masses. He is placing his personal ambition over and above the interest of Nigerians.

PDP spokespersons have featured in different platforms appealing to the president not to shift grounds or change his decision in spite of the pangs Nigerians are weathering as a result of this callous policy. When did they become Buhari’s friend?

Nigerians must unite against this anti-masses policy irrespective of our political tendencies, religious background and ethnicity. No ambition is greater than our collective survival as a people. Individual interest can not override the interest of the masses.

Mr. President, out of compassion for the masses who voted you twice, please allow the old and new naira notes to coexist for at least six months in the interest of the hoi polloi.
