A Nigerian man has been arrested for living in Northern Ireland for 14 years with fake passport documents.
He was arrested by detectives of the Gardai Nation Economic Crime Bureau after he attempted to pass the document as his official ID to the Department of Social Protection.
The Sun reports that the Nigerian man ran out of luck when operatives of the Department critically examined the documents and found spelling errors.
It was discovered that United Kingdom was spelt as ”United Kigdom” while Britain was spelt as ”Britian”.
While the man has been taken into custody, operatives believe he must have been involved in criminal activities and worked using fake identities.
The Gardai operatives also raided a property linked to him and found dozens of fake passports.
At the moment, efforts are being made to establish the true identity of the Nigerian man which includes his name, state of origin and tribe.
Authorities also believe that he may be a fugitive who has been trying to hide from authorities in Nigeria.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) have reacted to the development via an official press release.
