One Killed As Hunters, Police Rescue Four Abducted Passengers

One local security guard was killed and three kidnap suspects wounded as hunters and police rescued four passengers abducted at Odo-Osun in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

The passengers were abducted by gunmen in ambush on three commercial vehicles at two spots.

A security source said three of the seven kidnap suspects “were armed with AK47 rifles while three others carried Pump Action guns. The other one was the Yoruba man who was negotiating the ransom. The six suspects are Fulani.

“The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N5 million but when they saw that we were resilient to rescue the victims from them they reduced it to N100,000. They have no place to hide again in the bush because of the joint force on them by the police, hunters, OPC and volunteers from the Kiriji Heritage Defenders.

“After they kidnapped a passenger at the Odo-Osun, we trailed them and we saw that they attacked two other vehicles at Esa-Odo village where they kidnapped another three passengers. They are all male.

“They contacted us for ransom; that was when we struck them.”

The Director-General of Kiriji Heritage Defenders, Dr Ademola Ekundayo said, “Four people have been rescued by security operatives but one of our people was killed.”

Commissioner of Police Olawale Olokode also confirmed the rescue.
