While Vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo has been appealing to Nigerians to allow him, for now, to concentrate on his job at hand and helping president Muhammadu Buhari to deliver his laudable programmes and policies, a group called Osinbajo Vanguard has once again called on him to contest 2023 presidency.

Rising from its well-attended meeting from the six geopolitical zones in Abuja on the 3rd October 2023, the group said the call is based on the spotted capability of the VP to build on the foundation being laid by President Buhari.

According to the group ‘ Osinbajo has demonstrated capability in helping president Buhari to achieve his set agenda and we can also see from these programmes, particularly in the social investment programmes and economy and the VP has made youths and women a priority. We strongly believe youths and women interests would be better served under his watch as a president 2023.’

The group also emphasised that what is at stake is the future of our children and that have nothing to do with power shift but capability. The group stated that ‘we have come together, across various zones, ethnicities, and religions, to discuss the future of our country, we are not a political group but a pressure group who believe in capability as a criterial for leadership’

Rolling out its blueprint, the group promised that weeks ahead would be full of activities to persuade Osinbajo to heed to the call of Nigerians who are now looking up to him for leadership. They also changed the name from ‘Starboy Vanguard’ to ‘Osinbajo Vanguard’ as a means of making the name of the organisation speak for itself.

They emphasised that they are taking their campaign to the grassroots where every ethnic group in Nigeria will be involved. According to the National Coordinator of the group, YM Isah ‘we will not be gathering ourselves in Abuja to speak English. We are taking our message to the grassroots and bring feedback in the people’s language. We are going to encourage people to speak to us in their own dialect to let Osinbajo know that we are just speaking grammar but the ordinary people are the ones who need him.’ ‘We are confident that at the appropriate time, Osinbajo will not fail to heed to the patriotic call of ordinary Nigerians’ the group said.

It could be recalled that various groups and individuals have been calling Osinbajo to contest for the 2023 presidency but the VP has also been pleading to be allowed to focus on the job at hand now. So also, late last month Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State also said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is a sellable presidential aspirant if he chooses to contest the Presidential elections in 2023.
