President Uhuru Kenyatta Presidential escort officer shot himself dead on Monday evening in Juja Kiambu County under unclear circumstances.
The police constable identified as Samwel Ngatia attached to the Presidential Escort Unit is said to have shot himself inside his house and succumbed to the gunshot wound while receiving treatment.
Reports held by police indicated that the constable shot himself on the torso and chin with a single bullet that threw him sprawling on the ground before neighbors who heard a gunshot rushed to his house only to find him writhing in pain in a pool of blood.
They immediately in an attempt to save him rushed him to the nearby hospital but the police officer unfortunately succumbed before he could reach the hospital
The officers who visited the scene recovered one spent cartridge at the scene. The body of the deceased was taken to a nearby morgue for postmortem.
Police officer’s mental state has been a thorny issue as the majority of them have turned to committing suicide by either killing themselves, lovers, or their family members something that has driven the security agencies in the country to find a solution to preventing further killings by addressing mental issues of the officers through sensitization programs.
