The heir to the throne, Prince Charles, was proclaimed King at a ceremony on Saturday, 10 September, at St James’ Palace.

The death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, paved the way for the historical emergence of the new Head of State, King Charles.

One of his first noticeable functions during the accession council was the approval of the Queen’s funeral day as a bank holiday moving forward. This day is still unknown as the palace continues to unravel plans.

Unlike his mother’s ceremony, King Charles III becomes the oldest King in history to become King at his age.

The King held the first meeting of the Privy Council, which comprised the senior politicians who are official advisers of the monarch.

In the televised ceremony, Richard Tilbrook, the clerk of the Privy Council, proclaimed Charles as “King, head of the Commonwealth, defender of the faith.”

King Charles III made his own declaration before senior politicians, judges, and officials who gathered in the State Apartment of the Palace in London.

He said, “I know how deeply you, the entire nation, and I think I may say the whole world, sympathize with me in the irreparable loss we’ve all suffered.

“It is the greatest consolation to me to know the sympathy expressed by so many to my sister and brothers.”

However, with the stability enjoyed over the decades with the Queen, there are concerns about what the reign of King Charles III would bring to the kingdom.
