Secondus Reveals Why PDP Governors Are Joining APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that governors elected on the platform of the party are defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) due to intimidation and fear of prosecution.

The PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus made the submission on Tuesday while reacting to the official defection of Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle to APC.

It will be recalled that Matawalle officially joined the APC during a ceremony in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital on Tuesday, and many APC Governors, lawmakers, SGF Boss Mustapha, as well as other party chieftains were on hand to welcome him.

Secondus slammed the APC-led federal government, stating that despite the security and economic challenges plaguing the country, the Buhari administration is more focused on how to poach members from opposition parties.

The PDP national chairman spoke at a press briefing held at its National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, after a meeting of PDP leaders.

He however expressed confidence that the PDP will win the 2023 presidential election as the party has the support of the masses who will vote while the APC is only focused on stealing big-name politicians.

He said: “Let me emphasize that APC governors and government of APC are overbearing on the system and moving to poach our governors, and this to them is regarded as an achievement. I have never seen where you have economic crises, insecurity crises, then the ruling party goes poaching governors, and 18 governors as published on social media will be moving, leaving their states to celebrate the killings of innocent citizens in Zamfara state or hunger in Zamfara state? This is a shame and it is laughable.

“They are going after our governors, but we are going after the masses of this country. The governors have one vote, but we are after the people; the masses, the people who are suffering under this government. And the masses are solidly behind us, the masses are for the PDP and we stand here to state clearly that we shall form this new government coming in 2023 because of the masses and not because of the governors.”
